Overview

Caldrys is an ancient Sin’dorei Blood Knight who remained a holy Retribution paladin through the Third Invasion of the Burning Legion. A zealous hunter of the Void, he persecuted elves who studied it, destroyed Void creatures wherever he found them, and believed forbidden powers had already cost Quel’Thalas too much. During the Third Invasion, he served in the reformed Silver Hand under Highlord Cairden.

After the Legion’s defeat, Caldrys pursued rogue void-touched elves through a portal to Telogrus Rift, where he arrived amid a battle against a nameless Void horror. The creature captured him, corrupted him, and tried to make him its servant. Caldrys survived by turning the imposed Void back against the monster and killing it. Now a void elf against his will, he remains a paladin in oath, discipline, and judgment, but wields Void-shaped retribution with horror and restraint. He distrusts the Void completely and trusts even less those who turned to it willingly. He integrates poorly into void elf society, but finds a more functional place in the broader Alliance, which he had privately preferred over the Horde long before his exile.

Timeline

  • Born in ancient Quel’Thalas, roughly of Lor’themar Theron’s generation.
  • Lives through long centuries of Thalassian history as a loyal son of Silvermoon.
  • Becomes a Blood Knight after the fall of the Sunwell and the rise of the order.
  • Begins with the hard pride of the early Blood Knights, then becomes genuinely devout after the Sunwell’s restoration.
  • Develops into a zealous hunter of the Void, targeting void cults, void beings, and Sin’dorei who study forbidden powers.
  • Serves in the reformed Silver Hand under Highlord Cairden during the Third Invasion of the Burning Legion.
  • After the Legion’s defeat, pursues rogue void-touched elves through a portal to Telogrus Rift.
  • Arrives during a battle between the new void elf denizens of the rift and a nameless Void horror.
  • Enters the battle because he is still a paladin, regardless of his hatred for Void dabblers.
  • Is captured by the horror, corrupted, and nearly made into its servant.
  • Turns the imposed Void against the monster and kills it.
  • Escapes transformed into a void elf against his will.
  • Fails to fit comfortably among the void elves because he distrusts the Void and resents those who sought it willingly.
  • Finds more purpose with the broader Alliance, whose order and principles had long appealed to him more than the Horde’s pragmatism.
  • Continues as a void paladin, using Void power through the discipline of oath, judgment, and retribution rather than acceptance or devotion.

Hooks

  • Caldrys is living proof that the Void can be imposed on the unwilling, not merely chosen by the reckless.
  • His old persecution of Void researchers now follows him as shame, justification, and unresolved tension.
  • He hates the Void more intimately after surviving it.
  • He struggles with void elves who speak of balance or possibility, seeing temptation where they see discipline.
  • His relationship with Cairden can carry the pain of a former Silver Hand paladin transformed into something the Light-bound struggle to accept.
  • His preference for the Alliance gives him a new home, but not an easy one.
  • His central conflict is not whether he is still a paladin, but whether others can recognize what he refuses to stop being.
