Canon and Status
Every substantive vault claim should be understood through one of three statuses.
Locked
Material explicitly established for this vault or directly established by the selected source continuity. It should not be silently revised. A contradiction requires an explicit decision and an update to affected notes.
Tentative
A working interpretation, assignment, bridge, or characterization that is useful enough to write down but remains open to revision. Tentative material may guide drafting, but it is not final biography or continuity.
Unresolved
A known question or contradiction for which the vault has not selected an answer. Competing possibilities should be recorded without quietly choosing one in narrative prose.
Source Priority
- Explicit decisions recorded for this vault.
- WAR’s own depicted events and setting claims.
- Pre-divergence WHFB lore inherited presumptively by WAR.
- Provisional harmonization notes connecting WAR to the End Times.
Later WHFB material does not automatically overwrite WAR. When WAR and the End Times cannot both occur as written, the contradiction remains unresolved until the vault adopts a patch.
Publication Cutoff
All newly introduced Warhammer material published on or after July 11, 2015, the launch of Age of Sigmar, is provisional for this continuity. This applies across publication lines, including WFRP Fourth Edition, modern Warhammer: The Old World, Black Library, video games, and other licensed works. New lore from those publications requires explicit case-by-case approval before incorporation.
Pre-cutoff material continues to follow the established harmonization approach. Reprints and restatements do not automatically invalidate previously established lore merely because their publication is later. Storm of Chaos remains excluded; the End Times remain within the accepted continuity framework.
The 2026 WFRP Fourth Edition supplement Temple of Spite is provisional. Its Disciples may inform proposed harmonizations but do not automatically supplement or override WAR’s career lore. Original WAR initiation’s molten-brass eyes and the game’s facial ornaments and piercings take precedence over divergent ice-blue eyes or ceremonial iron masks.
Character Guardrail
Names, races, careers, and explicitly discussed personality are separable from biography. A locked name and career do not authorize a surname, birthplace, family, age, relationship, or personal history. Those fields remain blank until established.
Article Prose and Terminology
Character, institution, location, and event articles use cohesive in-universe prose. Gameplay, publication history, rejected alternatives, comparisons with other continuities, and development instructions belong in Notes or explicit continuity documents. The same rule applies to supporting articles as to the principal cast.
Use ordinary descriptive headings such as Overview, History, Personality, and Relationships. Avoid editorial headings and placeholder statements about facts not yet established. Unknown details belong in Notes or Unresolved Issues, rather than repeated qualifications inside the biography.
Info cards contain standard biographical details and relevant cultural identities. Length of professional service belongs in the history unless a conventional biographical field specifically calls for it.
A mechanical career title is used in lore only when it is also an appropriate in-universe designation. Keep the distinction between a general occupation and confirmed membership of a particular institution; a playable career alone does not establish an unsupported affiliation.
Indexes and policy, source, and game-history records may discuss their organizational or editorial purpose openly. Their language does not change the narrative convention used in lore articles.
