Overview

Callae Emberfall is a blood elf demon hunter of the Illidari and the Horde. Fel-altered, dangerous, athletic, and physically confident, she holds to the Illidari conviction that some sacrifices and transformations are necessary to fight demons on their own terms.

Cairden

During the Legion campaign, Callae and Cairden entered a passionate, relatively short-lived relationship. The attraction was immediate and intensely physical as well as emotional. Cairden was drawn to her beauty, danger, fel-altered nature, athleticism, and refusal to become timid around him; Callae was drawn to his size, strength, authority, discipline, and the restrained aggression beneath his controlled manner.

Their first night together followed a disastrous mission that still achieved its essential purpose but left them cut off from their allies, wounded, exhausted, and temporarily sheltered without extraction. They tended each other’s injuries, argued over what had gone wrong, and acted on a desire they had both been suppressing. Neither treated the encounter as a mistake, though neither knew at first what name to give the relationship. They continued to seek one another out.

Illidan and Xe’ra

Their paths ultimately could not be reconciled. Callae remained Illidari and defended the necessity of self-chosen transformation, while Cairden became increasingly bound to the Light, the Silver Hand, and lasting institutions. Xe’ra’s attempt to Lightforge Illidan against his will, followed by Illidan’s destruction of Xe’ra, exposed the deepest division between them. Callae saw an intolerable attempt to overwrite Illidan’s identity. Cairden saw a catastrophically prideful figure refusing any judgment beyond his own.

The division did not end their love or desire at once, but it made a shared life impossible.
