Overview
Denarin Bladewing is a night elf Balance Druid, the younger brother of Feoran Bladewing, and a childhood companion of Selinora. He was born several thousand years after the War of the Ancients and raised with Feoran and Selinora during the Long Vigil. His aptitude for druidism made him a figure of greater spiritual prestige than his older brother, although Denarin did not seek to diminish Feoran.
As a younger man, Denarin desired Selinora nearly as intensely as Feoran did, and Selinora genuinely considered both brothers. Denarin eventually recognized that his calling left little room for the relationship he imagined and withdrew from pursuing her. Selinora’s eventual partnership with Feoran was still her own genuine choice, and Denarin retained deep love for both of them without treating Selinora as an unresolved prize between brothers.
During the Burning of Teldrassil, Denarin remained in Darnassus with Selinora to aid the evacuation. He refused to leave while any Kaldorei remained trapped. When the evacuation portal began to collapse and Selinora would not abandon him, Denarin forced her, scarred but alive, through the portal into the arms of her fellow priestesses. He remained on Teldrassil and died.
In death he first appeared as a wisp following Feoran, desperately trying to warn him away from self-destruction and asking him to forgive both himself and Denarin. As Feoran’s connection to Elune deepened and he entered the Shadowlands, Denarin became increasingly perceptible and increasingly transformed into a spirit of the wild. Ardenweald does not simply house his soul; it becomes the place through which his druidic identity continues into a new form of existence.

Timeline
- Born as the younger of the Bladewing brothers during the Long Vigil, several thousand years after the War of the Ancients.
- Raised alongside Feoran and Selinora.
- Demonstrated strong aptitude for druidic nature magic and began formal druidic study.
- Unintentionally intensified Feoran’s fear that the younger brother had become the more important Bladewing.
- Desired Selinora deeply, then withdrew from pursuing her as druidic studies and duties consumed his life.
- Accepted Selinora’s genuine choice of Feoran and continued to love both without sustaining the rivalry.
- Remained on Teldrassil with Selinora during the War of Thorns to help evacuate Darnassus while Feoran commanded on the ground in Darkshore.
- Refused to leave during the Burning of Teldrassil while any Kaldorei remained trapped.
- Forced a severely scarred Selinora through a failing portal to her fellow priestesses moments before it collapsed.
- Remained on Teldrassil and died.
- Appeared near Feoran as a wisp during the Fourth War, trying to interrupt Feoran’s increasingly reckless Night Warrior campaign.
- Drew closer to Feoran as Feoran followed Tyrande into the Shadowlands during the War Against the Jailer.
- Manifested more clearly in Ardenweald while also taking on the characteristics of a spirit of the wild.
- Confronted Feoran over the meaning of his death and asked Feoran to forgive them both: Feoran for not being present and Denarin for choosing to remain.
- Continued developing beyond an ordinary night elf soul into a wild spirit capable of limited contact with the living world.
Hooks
- Define Denarin’s exact age relative to Feoran and Selinora.
- Establish his druidic teachers, formal order, duties, and areas of expertise before Teldrassil.
- Decide whether Denarin’s Balance specialization emphasizes Elune, the stars, natural cycles, or broader celestial equilibrium.
- Establish whether he understands that he may become a wild spirit when he chooses to remain.
- Define the stages of his posthumous development: wisp, recognizable spectral elf, and mature spirit of the wild.
- Define the limits governing his manifestations in Azeroth so that his continued presence does not erase the reality of his death.
- Explore his anger, regret, and guilt over taking Selinora’s choice from her even though he does not regret saving her.
- Determine what continuing duty anchors him to Ardenweald.
- Explore whether Feoran can ever fully forgive Denarin’s unilateral sacrifice rather than merely understanding it.
Appearance
Denarin’s current portrait depicts his posthumous wild-spirit form rather than a clearly defined mortal appearance. He appears as a tall, ethereal male night elf formed from blue-green anima, moonlight, leaves, roots, and interwoven lines of natural energy. Branching antlers or an antlered crown rise from his brow. His eyes glow bright cyan-blue, and his body is partially armored or clothed in layered leaves and organic druidic ornamentation.
His hair and facial hair are not conventionally physical. Both appear to be suggested by flowing leaves, spectral strands, and branchlike forms.
His spirit is surrounded by drifting leaves, motes of starlight, wisps, and animal presences. His earliest manifestation after Teldrassil should be much smaller and simpler: a single wisp whose movements and persistence gradually reveal Denarin’s identity. His mortal appearance before death remains undefined.
Notes
- Denarin stands in for Kavina Grovesong during the Argent Tournament.
