Overview
Carsybe is a learned Magus of Tzeentch whose interest in forbidden knowledge extends into metaphysics and the possibilities of transformation. He later serves as principal sorcerous adviser to Rehlos within the Raven Host.
Personality
Calm, articulate, and deeply condescending, Carsybe regards scholarship as a source of power. He sees Imperial religion and the Colleges of Magic as institutions that keep humanity intellectually shackled, and seeks the understanding through which those limits can be overcome.
His preference for manipulation and indirect control follows from that conviction. Knowledge allows him to act upon men who believe themselves masters of their own purposes.
History
During the earliest proving rites, Carsybe cooperates with Rehlos because the Chosen is an exceptionally useful martial instrument. Both believe they are exploiting the association, and neither trusts the other. Carsybe may consider himself to be shaping the commander he needs, while Rehlos expects precisely such attempts.
The pair first work meaningfully with Mourgrim and Craeven during the Raven Host Proving. Their effectiveness as four aspirants facing the same objective helps bring their paths together afterward. Continued service makes Carsybe the principal Magus of Rehlos’s larger field command.
Relationships
Carsybe recognizes Rehlos’s military leadership while pursuing influence through counsel, knowledge, and the shaping of decisions. He may regard himself as the true intellect behind the command. Rehlos remains alert to that ambition, leaving their association a contest in which each believes the other’s behaviour can be used.
Craeven holds religious authority within the same force. Mourgrim supplies direct violence at the front of its assaults, with little interest in the intellectual manoeuvring Carsybe favours.
