Overview

Morton Dreadmoore, later known as Morrivar, was the eldest son of House Dreadmoore of Gilneas. A warlock trained in the family’s vitality-draining and pox-giving arts, demonic bindings, and quiet older rites, he was raised to inherit the barony. That inheritance was a lie. The old Baron Dreadmoore had prolonged his own life for generations through stolen Morrivar magic and the sacrifice of his eldest heirs.

House Dreadmoore

Morton grew up in a house built around a promise that was never meant to be kept. He was trained as an heir and warlock while the Baron prepared to consume the life that had been shaped for him. Aidan, his younger brother, discovered enough of the Baron’s theft to sabotage the curse at the center of the continuance rite. Morton independently sought to take that rite for himself, not knowing Aidan had already compromised it.

In 18 ADP, the collision of those plans killed Morton in a Morrivar crypt in the Kingdom of Lordaeron. The Baron was broken or killed, but the family survived the immediate catastrophe only to inherit its consequences.

The Name Morrivar

Morton rose as Forsaken in Tirisfal with no memory except the name Morrivar. He took it as his own before he knew it belonged to the family whose magic had destroyed him. His imp knew more, but the restored demonic binding made it a resentful servant rather than a useful witness.

Even after learning that he had been Morton Dreadmoore, he kept the name. Morrivar had become more than a mistaken identity. It was the name under which he had awakened, survived, and begun to choose a life separate from the role House Dreadmoore had prepared for him.

Gilneas and Revendreth

After returning to the Dreadmoore Estate inside the Greymane Wall, Morrivar helped defend Gilneas against the Forsaken. His presence as a visible undead man deepened suspicion toward the already distrusted Dreadmoores, even when his service was real. After a later death, he was found in Revendreth during the War Against the Jailer and returned again afterward. That second return intensified Aidan’s resentment and left Morrivar still more estranged from the life he had once been expected to inherit.
