Overview

Elias Redyn is a Templar of Sigmar from Wördern, Stirland. Usually known by his surname, he is an inquisitive and zealous witch hunter committed to exposing heresy and destroying Chaos corruption. An independent investigation brings him into the region around Grimmenhagen, where his objectives intersect those of the Order of the Griffon.

Personality

Elias’s curiosity precedes the losses that shaped his vocation. He is intensely inquisitive and intellectually restless, with a desire to uncover the truth that found religious direction under Father Johren Mueller. As a Templar, he applies those qualities to the identification and judgment of corruption.

His zeal is fanatical, but it rests upon a sincere faith developed before Johren’s murder. Investigating heresy gives that faith and curiosity an urgent purpose. He answers to the authority and responsibilities of his own institution even when working apart from an army.

History

Wördern

Elias lost his parents during early adolescence. Within Johren’s congregation he found shelter, belonging, and purpose, and the priest took personal responsibility for his care. Elias lived under his protection, helped with ordinary chapel work, and received religious and intellectual instruction.

Johren became his spiritual father and one of the most important male influences of his early life. He encouraged Elias’s inquisitiveness and gave it a constructive theological foundation. Elias formed a deep attachment to him and seriously considered following his example into the Order of the Torch, drawn by the priest’s scholarship and service to the faithful.

Johren’s Murder

Local heretics murdered Johren while Elias was still a teenager. Elias neither witnessed the killing nor discovered the body, but the loss was devastating. The man who had sheltered him after his parents’ deaths had also given shape to his faith, his intellectual life, and the future he had begun imagining.

The murder turned him toward the Templars of Sigmar. He wanted to identify those responsible and bring them to judgment, and the Templar’s vocation offered the investigative training, authority, and means to pursue them. His existing curiosity and devotion now found expression in the search for heresy and the struggle against it.

Grimmenhagen

Elias is pursuing suspected heretics independently when the military crisis develops around Grimmenhagen. Shared objectives lead him to cooperate with the Griffon and the other defenders. He attaches himself voluntarily to its operations, recognizing battlefield command while remaining responsible to his own superiors and free to withdraw from military service.

Relationships

Johren’s place in Elias’s life was that of mentor, protector, and spiritual father. The priest’s brother Cairden knew Elias through that ministry. They come from the same broader Stirlander region and share a bereavement, although their ages and backgrounds are very different.

Both serve Sigmar through distinct branches of the Cult. Cairden’s work combines militant priesthood and pastoral care; Elias’s centres upon investigation and judgment. Their common religious understanding supports cooperation without erasing differences in theology, procedure, or personal judgment.
