Overview
Don Jacinto de Arce, known to his Imperial comrades as Jarcey, is an Estalian-born Knight of the Blazing Sun. The younger son of a landed noble family, he has pursued a military vocation abroad in the Empire. His order sends him from Altdorf to reinforce Viktor Riese in the defense of Grimmenhagen.
Personality
Jarcey is cheerful, approachable, and at ease among ordinary soldiers. Noble birth has given him an education and a sense of professional obligation without making him insist upon ceremony in every interaction. His confidence, charisma, and tactical intelligence make him a promising officer, and people readily want to follow him.
He accepts the familiar name Jarcey without offense. Imperial comrades shortened Jacinto de Arce to the written abbreviation J. Arce, which gradually acquired a life of its own. Where another knight might resent such familiarity, he is comfortable with it. That ease coexists with military discipline and respect for his order.
His devotion to Myrmidia informs his understanding of warfare: strategy, professional competence, honourable conduct, leadership, and the defense of civilization belong together. He remains conscious of his Estalian upbringing and regards his work in the Empire as foreign service.
History
House de Arce
His father, Don Jorge de Arce el Viejo, holds the family’s hereditary title and landed estates. His elder brother, Don Jorge de Arce el Mozo, is the designated heir. As the younger son, Jacinto has no immediate expectation of governing those lands and enjoys considerable freedom to pursue a professional military career.
That freedom suits his naturally friendly and unpretentious disposition. It allows him to devote himself to soldiering without making aristocratic standing the centre of his dealings with others.
Military Service
Jarcey is young and promising, with substantial professional training. Compared with provincial militia and many of Grimmenhagen’s defenders, he brings considerable military experience. Beside veteran Myrmidian officers, however, he remains comparatively green and has much to learn.
His orders specifically send him to reinforce Riese, a fellow Knight of the Blazing Sun commanding Grimmenhagen’s defense. The assignment places Jarcey within the Order of the Griffon’s operations alongside men whose reasons for being there differ from his own.
Relationships
His father and elder brother occupy the senior positions within House de Arce, while his own vocation has taken him into the service of the Blazing Sun. Riese provides an experienced officer under whom his abilities may develop further.
Drasol also arrives from Altdorf under formal institutional orders. Cairden is already ministering in Grimmenhagen, and Redyn is investigating suspected heretics in the region. Their duties bring them into cooperation during the crisis.
