Overview

Infinis is the fearful epithet of Thovar, Vathor’s alternate-timeline counterpart. In his own branch, he too began as Vathor. After joining the Infinite, he took the inverted name Thovar; Infinis is what he became to those who knew him only through the consequences of his actions.

A Divergent Life

The divergence began quietly during Vathor’s escape from Adamanthia’s attempted reconditioning in the early War of the Scaleborn. Both Vathors escaped in their respective branches, and neither first understood that a split had occurred. Small differences gathered into different lives.

Neither man began as the other’s moral opposite. Both are pragmatic, cautious survivors shaped by confinement and control. Vathor learned to risk connection, trust, and reliance on others. Thovar came to believe that dependence, intimacy, and being known were openings through which he could again be controlled.

The Infinite

Vathor’s relationship with Nozdormu gave him some decisive support that remains undefined. Thovar’s life carried him away from Nozdormu, and he faced an analogous catastrophe without that relationship or resource. He searched possible futures for a way to stop it, finding only failures, displaced losses, and costs he could not accept. That search drove him to the Infinite Dragonflight.

The Infinite changed him, as did Murozond’s influence, but Infinis never became an obedient instrument. His independence remains essential; he does not naturally submit to Bronze authority, Infinite hierarchy, or anyone else’s definition of what he must become.

Vathor and Emberwake

Vathor first heard of Infinis as an Infinite figure whose purposes crossed his own. When they finally met in conflict, Infinis revealed that he was Thovar and that he knew the secret of Vathor’s dracthyr origin. Their later reconciliation was personal before it was political: Vathor accepted Thovar as a real alternate person rather than a disaster to avert, while Thovar recognized that Vathor’s trust was not mere weakness.

Infinis entered Emberwake as a voluntary and difficult experiment in belonging. The question is not whether he can obey a custodian. It is whether he can share plans, responsibility, danger, and disagreement without surrendering his identity or trying to control everyone around him. Vandryk has full authority to hold him to Emberwake’s standards.
