Overview

Vathor is an ancient dracthyr evoker with an unusually strong affinity for the Bronze Dragonflight. He can wield the essences of all five dragonflights, as dracthyr can, but Bronze power answers him with exceptional strength. It does not make him a Bronze dragon, nor did it spare him the fear of losing his will to another’s command.

Before the Long Stasis

Vathor belongs to roughly Zayla’s generation. He had substantial service before the creches were sealed, though not the nearly three centuries of experience held by Vandryk and the first generation. After Raszageth destroyed the Oathbinder and Neltharion began yielding to Old God power, Vathor was confined in a Forbidden Reach creche with the other dracthyr.

Escape and Concealment

During the early War of the Scaleborn, Adamanthia awakened some dracthyr and tried to restore Neltharion’s control over them. Vathor escaped in that period. Drawing too deeply on his Bronze essence during the escape created a subtle, self-sustaining temporal divergence whose workings remain unknown.

Vathor eventually sought Nozdormu, who protected and concealed him. In public, Vathor could pass as an unusual Bronze-associated dragon or coterie member who strongly favored a humanoid guise rather than expose himself as an ancient dracthyr who had escaped the creches. He alone among Emberwake’s core circle lived through the nearly twenty thousand years between that escape and the modern age.

Infinis

Infinis is not Vathor’s inevitable future. He is the other Vathor produced by the divergent branch that began during the escape from Adamanthia’s reconditioning. The defeat of Murozond matters deeply to Vathor because it proves that a possible future need not become a destiny.

Emberwake

Vathor is pragmatic, cautious, and permanently marked by the threat of confinement. He nevertheless accepts the calculated risk of trust, connection, and shared burden; isolation, he knows, can be another kind of prison. By the time of Midnight, he serves Morrivar Company at a senior level and brings Emberwake into the Company as its patron. The unit belongs under Vandryk’s operational command, not Vathor’s private authority.

Relationships

  • Infinis - alternate-timeline counterpart, later reconciled with him
  • Nozdormu - protector and concealer after Vathor’s escape
  • Vandryk - Emberwake’s actual operational commander
  • Zayla - dracthyr of his original era and Emberwake member
  • Trishale - late-created dracthyr and Emberwake member

Affiliations

  • During the early War of the Scaleborn, awakened during Adamanthia’s attempt to restore Neltharion’s control over dracthyr.
  • Escaped during that period and drew too deeply on Bronze temporal essence, creating a subtle temporal divergence.
  • Eventually sought out Nozdormu, who protected and concealed him.
  • Lived through the intervening nearly twenty thousand years after escaping confinement.
  • Later encountered Infinis, who revealed himself as Thovar, Vathor’s alternate Infinite counterpart.

Hooks

  • The precise mechanics of the temporal split remain undefined.
  • The catastrophe avoided in Vathor’s branch, and the role Nozdormu’s support played in avoiding it, remain open.
  • Vathor’s patronage of Emberwake leaves Vandryk’s operational command intact.
  • His Bronze affinity should remain unusually strong without making him biologically Bronze.
