Overview
The Southern Barrens is the southern half of the old Barrens, bordered by Mulgore, Dustwallow Marsh, Thousand Needles, and the Stonetalon Mountains. Deathwing’s return carved the magma-filled Great Divide across the old Barrens during the Cataclysm, making its northern and southern halves difficult to reach directly and leaving the south a heavily contested war zone.
It contains Bael Modan, Bael’dun Keep, the Frazzlecraz Motherlode, Fort Triumph, Northwatch, and the Stonetalon Pass. Alliance and Horde forces both fought repeatedly for the region during the Cataclysm and again during the Fourth War.

- Cogblast - investigated the Bael Modan emergency and led part of Twinbraid’s retaliation.
- Tinks - reinforced Corvo from Theramore and infiltrated the Frazzlecraz Motherlode.
- Aibhinger - arrived from the Stonetalon campaign with a military report and escorted the Bael Modan refugees onward.
- Monli - led the displaced Bael Modan community toward Theramore.
- Gellix - escaped the destruction he helped cause at Bael’dun Keep.
