Overview
Tavin Brasslock, known as Tinks, is a gnome rogue, G.E.A.R. operative, and SI:7 asset. He is a dashing adventurer and covert operative, highly skilled in stealth when a mission requires it, but fond of direct confrontation despite his training.
Tinks is unusually serious for a gnome, though still charismatic and dynamic. In battle, he compensates for his small size with gadgets, superior acrobatic ability, and aggressive movement around larger opponents.
Early Adventures
By the Classic Campaign, Tinks is already an adult with several years of modest adventuring experience. He begins in Goldshire and travels through Elwynn, Westfall, Redridge, Duskwood, Stranglethorn, Booty Bay, and then Kalimdor. He follows jobs, rumors, treasure, interesting people, and adventures rather than a military chain of command.
During his southbound Stranglethorn travel, before he reaches Booty Bay, a rogue contact gives him the mysterious Elegant Letter that draws him toward Ravenholdt. The implication that an important rogue organization has noticed him catches his attention at once. Tinks makes a deliberately excessive detour north, likely using a mage’s transport to Ironforge before continuing to Alterac and Hillsbrad. Ravenholdt gives him techniques, standards, contacts, and his first serious sense that rogue work can be a disciplined profession rather than merely criminality or adventuring. While nearby, he becomes involved in the Southshore and Tarren Mill fighting before returning south to Stranglethorn and Booty Bay.
From Booty Bay, Tinks reaches Tanaris by ship, then travels north into Thousand Needles. At the Shimmering Flats and Mirage Raceway, he throws his support behind the gnome racing team. The work reinforces both his gnomish loyalty and his growing enthusiasm for practical engineering. He may take neutral work or deal with goblins when it suits him, but he does not betray the gnome team. From Thousand Needles he returns south into Tanaris proper; his route after that remains open.
His initial visit is only the beginning of his relationship with Ravenholdt. In the years before he joins Gnomeregan Covert Ops, Ravenholdt becomes an important and fairly close professional network for him. It sharpens his rogue craft without remaking him into a grim assassin. He remains energetic, charismatic, adventurous, and increasingly comfortable mixing swashbuckling rogue work with engineering and close-range technology.
Gnomeregan and Mechagon
Tinks joined Gnomeregan Covert Ops for Operation: Gnomeregan, where his Ravenholdt training and gnomish engineering made him particularly useful. His retractable mechanical sawblades date from this period. He continued refining his ordinary rogue tools and field gadgets over the following years, becoming a veteran gnomish special operator rather than acquiring his entire later arsenal at once.
During the Battle for Azeroth, Tinks was shortlisted for the newly formed G.E.A.R. and selected as its commander. The unit grew out of the older Gnomeregan R.A.N.G.E.R.S. Corps tradition founded by Corvo Cogblast. Corvo serves in G.E.A.R.’s senior command structure, but Tinks directly commands the unit’s routine operations, personnel, readiness, deployments, and mission execution. He retained useful ties to Gnomeregan Covert Ops, while the new command became his principal gnomish institution.
As commander, Tinks led the wider G.E.A.R. squad into Mechagon as part of the Alliance effort. There Prince Erazmin assigned Boltin as the Rustbolt Resistance liaison to the unit. Boltin’s knowledge of Mechagon and shared preference for mobile, gadget-driven fighting made the two an unusually effective pair. Their work together also produced the later refinements to Tinks’s hoverpack, jump boots, invisibility generator, and related mobility systems.
Outland
Tinks enters the Outland Campaign through the Dark Portal because a shattered world full of unfamiliar people, treasure, and trouble is precisely the kind of adventure he seeks. His path becomes the broad connective route of Alliance adventurers in Outland: general travel between regions, neutral factions, local troubles, dungeon expeditions, rogue work, goblin schemes, engineering problems, treasure, and the strange people encountered between larger campaigns. More specialized work falls to allies such as Drasol, Iruuk, and Rehlos, but Tinks remains the adventurer most often moving between those threads.
Relationships
- Aibhinger - first encountered during Classic Blackrock and dragon-raid campaigning; an early connection before their later Alliance and Morrivar Company history.
- Redyn - first met as Redyn Brown during early Ravenholdt involvement; an initially unremarkable and mildly awkward acquaintance.
- Gellix - rival since the opposing sides of the Mirage Raceway competition; their original personal grievance remains unresolved.
- Boltin - Rustbolt liaison to G.E.A.R. during Mechagon and a later close combat partner.
- Corvo Cogblast - corps founder and G.E.A.R. senior command figure; their relationship is professional and institutional.

Equipment and Methods
Tinks’s equipment has grown with his career. In his early years he relies on ordinary gnomish gadgets, rogue tools, and field-built experiments. The retractable sawblades he acquires during Operation: Gnomeregan become his signature melee system. His later Mechagon work with Boltin yields the mature hoverpack, jump boots, and personal invisibility field generator that let him cross a battlefield in abrupt, acrobatic bursts.
He fights with twin mechanical saw-swords, using movement, gadgets, and remarkable acrobatics to get around larger enemies instead of trying to meet their reach and weight head-on. He enjoys a direct confrontation when it presents itself.
His personal teleporter is useful for travel and return, not for combat. It cannot serve as a blink or sudden escape in the middle of a fight; it functions more like an unusually adaptable hearthstone.
Hooks
Notes
- Tinks is the closest equivalent to the wandering Alliance player avatar during the Classic Campaign. His route begins in Elwynn rather than Dun Morogh, with a Ravenholdt and Hillsbrad detour before he continues through Stranglethorn, Booty Bay, Tanaris, and Thousand Needles. His later Classic route remains open.
- During the Outland Campaign, Tinks is the primary Alliance player-avatar equivalent. He carries the broad default adventuring route, while material strongly suited to Drasol, Iruuk, Rehlos, or another character is assigned to them instead.
